FIRST AID HANDBOOK by the National Safety Council and Alton L. Thygerson (Jones & Bartlett: $10.95, 192 pp., illustrated, paperback original). Illustrated with drawings, tables and photographs, this manual contains a wealth of potentially lifesaving information about all types of injuries. However, its completeness works against it: Precious seconds could be lost trying to find the correct information in an emergency. Although National Safety Council advocate William Shatner appears on the cover, the authors don’t explain how to treat patients exposed to bad acting.
