Countywide : Red Cross to Conduct Mock Disaster Drill
- Share via
Red Cross workers in Orange County will hone their emergency response skills Saturday by treating “victims” of a simulated disaster. The drill will be conducted from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Canyon High School in Anaheim.
The scenario involves a hazardous-materials accident and subsequent explosion that would, if the disaster actually occurred, require nearby residents to be evacuated. Some “victims” in the drill will have makeup applied to simulate injuries.
Red Cross workers will use the occasion to practice first aid, triage and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Workers will also provide mental health services, shelter and a mass feeding.
The Orange County exercise is part of Community Disaster Drill Day, a nationwide program of the Red Cross. Hundreds of Red Cross chapters will be involved in similar drills Saturday.
