Seniors Can Afford It
Phyllis Stamm of the Hillview Estates Homeowners Assn. is quoted as saying that senior citizens on fixed incomes cannot afford a tax at this time of economic depression and that it will overburden the taxpayers (“Tax Proposal Fails, City’s Public Pool May Close,” Feb. 23).
Ms. Stamm does not represent the Hillview Estates Homeowners Assn. I am a member and she did not ask me to sign a petition. I would personally approve a tax hike to cover special projects for the school district.
The people who signed the petition are retirees from other areas. They have no ties to the community of Santa Paula. If you would like to take a drive through this development and see the new toys and autos that they own and the parties they go to and bus trips they take to Las Vegas and Laughlin, you would realize that they are not overburdened senior citizens.
