Japan Student Recites Pi to 42,194 Places

TOKYO — A Japanese student has recited pi, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, to 42,194 decimal places, setting a world record.
Hiroyuki Goto, 21, performed the feat Feb. 18 over nine hours, 21 minutes and 30 seconds, including breaks totaling one hour, 26 minutes and 47 seconds, the Daily Yomiuri reported Saturday.
The previous record was 40,000 figures over 17 hours, 21 minutes.
