COMMUNITY COLLEGE MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS : Six Teams From the County Make Field

Six Orange County teams are in the 32-team Southern California men’s basketball playoff field, which was announced Tuesday.
Saddleback (25-5), co-champion of the Orange Empire Conference, is seeded No. 6. The Gauchos open at home Friday against No. 27 Oxnard (16-15). Riverside (28-4), which won the other half of the conference championship, is seeded No. 4 and opens at home against No. 29 East Los Angeles (11-19) Friday.
Rancho Santiago (22-8) is seeded No. 10 and plays host to No. 23 Bakersfield (14-16) Friday. Irvine Valley (21-11) is No. 16 and plays host to No. 17 Grossmont (14-14), also Friday. It’s the first home playoff game for the Lasers in their three-year history.
Fullerton, Orange Coast and Cypress also earned berths but are on the road. Fullerton (13-18), the No. 25 team, is at No. 8 Santa Monica (24-8) Friday; No. 26 Orange Coast (12-18) is at No. 7 Cuesta (24-9) Saturday and No. 28 Cypress (16-17) is at No. 5 Long Beach (24-8) Saturday. Long Beach is the defending State champion.
The second round is Wednesday and the regional finals are March 4. The State tournament is March 9-11 at the UC Irvine’s Bren Center.
