LOS ANGELES : Council Extends Ban on Razing Skid Row Hotels
- Share via
The Los Angeles City Council has extended for another year the moratorium on the demolition of Skid Row hotels, preserving the most inexpensive of the city’s housing stock.
The council enacted the moratorium in 1987 to prevent developers from tearing down the single-room occupancy hotels standing on prime real estate in the Downtown area.
Planning officials are working on permanent preservation regulations, as part of an updated Downtown community plan.
