COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titans Beat Arizona Again, 10-2

Robert Matos hit a grand slam and Cal State Fullerton beat Arizona, 10-2, Friday in Tucson.
The Titans (6-1) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on D.C. Olsen’s two-run double and Jeremy Giambi’s RBI single.
Matos’ grand slam was the highlight of a six-run fourth inning. The Titans also won the first game of the series, 10-2.
Tim Dixon (1-0) struck out three in six innings. Ben White took the loss for the Wildcats, who dropped their fifth consecutive game and fell to 4-6.
In other nonconference baseball:
Southern California College 6, Whittier 3--Ryan Seidel went three for five with four runs batted in, including a game-winning, bases-loaded triple in the eighth inning, breaking a 3-3 tie. Ila Borders pitched six-plus innings for SCC (2-4), giving up three earned runs on five hits, three walks and three strikeouts.
In nonconference men’s tennis:
Chapman 8, La Verne 1--Jose Alvarez swept his singles match 7-5, 6-4 and his doubles match with Juan Melchor 6-2, 6-3 to lead Chapman (1-1) to their first victory since defeating Cal State Los Angeles on April 20, 1992, a span of 32 matches. Melchor swept his singles set without giving up a point for the Panthers. La Verne is 0-1.
In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball:
Long Beach State 3, UC San Diego 1--The Tritons jumped out to an 3-0 lead before the 49ers scored eight straight points and hung on to win, 15-10. In the second game, Long Beach (4-1, 3-1) fell behind 7-3, before scoring four straight points on serves by Steve Walker to tie the score, 7-7. The 49ers finally won, 15-10. San Diego (0-5, 0-4) again took a 7-3 lead in the third game and finished with a 15-11 victory. In Game 4, Long Beach won, 15-5.
Tom Hoff had 15 kills and Neil Mendel added 14 for Long Beach. San Diego’s Ed McMahon had 23 kills.
