Fire engines screeched to the White House on Saturday to investigate a smoky odor but found no fire.

Secret Service spokesman Jaime Cagigas said the fire department responded to an alarm triggered in the East Wing of the White House.

“There was no fire, just an odor of smoke,†Cagigas said. The odor was traced to an exhaust fan that overheated and burned out, he said.
