COLLEGE ROUNDUP : CLU Women Extend Winning Streak to 19
The Cal Lutheran women’s basketball team extended its school-record winning streak by defeating Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 91-74, in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game Friday night at Cal Lutheran.
Cal Lutheran (17-0, 5-0) has won a school-record 19 straight dating to last season.
Claremont (15-3, 4-1) figured to be one of Cal Lutheran’s toughest tests in recent weeks, and lived up to that billing during the first half as Cal Lutheran led, 40-39, at intermission.
However, Cal Lutheran pulled away by shooting 52% in the second half.
Kelli McCaskill had 18 points and 12 rebounds for Cal Lutheran. Evi Orologas added 17 points.
SWIMMING
Pepperdine 131, Cal State Northridge 64; Loyola Marymount 107, Cal State Northridge 97--Cal State Northridge’s Andrea Stevenson won two events and set a season best for time in the 500-yard freestyle in a double dual meet at Pepperdine.
Stevenson won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5 minutes 16.44 seconds. She defeated her closest competitor by 16 seconds.
Stevenson also won the 1,000 yard freestyle in 10:46.53. She finished second in the 200 freestyle in 1:59.46, .001 second off her season best.
Sarah Stovall was the only other Northridge swimmer to win an event. She won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:12.84.
Sara Cassady won her third consecutive diving competition. She scored 251.05 to win the 1-meter and finished second in the 3-meter with 234.95.
Northridge’s Sara Cohen placed second in the 1-meter and third in the 3-meter.
The Northridge men (5-5) defeated Loyola Marymount, 159-50.
