BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Pattersons’ One-Two Punch Flattens Monroe

Ronald Patterson connected on five three-point attempts and scored 22 points as Grant High held Monroe to six points in the first quarter and rolled to a 71-48 victory in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Grant Friday night.

Donald Patterson had 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Lancers (13-5, 5-1).

Monroe’s Shaka Stiner, averaging 19.1 points, was held to five. Tim Johnson scored 20 for Monroe (13-5, 4-2), ranked fifth in The Times’ area poll.

North Hollywood 62, Reseda 45--Arthur Lee and Shannon Johnson each scored 12 points for the Huskies (12-7, 5-1) in a Valley Pac-8 game.

Poly 61, Sylmar 49--Jamie Cerna had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Poly (10-7, 4-2) in a Valley Pac-8 game.

Poly overcame an eight-point first quarter to win its fourth in a row.

Franklin 66, Verdugo Hills 58--Maurice Potter had 24 points and 15 rebounds, and Jerson Castillo added 13 points and eight assists for Verdugo Hills (6-13, 3-6) in the Northern Conference loss.

Granada Hills 80, El Camino Real 65--Ernest Quinley scored 16 points in each half for the host Highlanders in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

William Ruffin scored eight points, had 10 assists and grabbed 12 rebounds for Granada Hills (9-9, 2-3).

L.A. Baptist 74, Western Christian 62--Armen Kaprelian had 23 points and 15 rebounds as the Knights (13-6, 5-1) downed the Fighting Lancers (7-11, 5-1) in an Alpha League game.

Village Christian 76, Kilpatrick 35--David Gustafson scored 19 points for the host Crusaders in an Alpha League game. Chad Hanson had 16 points for Village Christian (12-6, 5-0).

Dos Pueblos 79, Ventura 68--Matt Williams had 25 points and 11 rebounds for the Chargers (17-2, 8-1) in a Channel League game.

Khary Hicks added 19 points for the Chargers, who are ranked seventh in the Southern Section.

Buena 86, Rio Mesa 59--Seneka Shaw scored 12 of his 26 points in the opening quarter for the Bulldogs in a Channel League game.

John Tobias added 14 points for Buena (12-6, 6-2). Rob Wolf and Randy Fife each scored 14 points for Rio Mesa (2-16, 1-7).

Palmdale 97, Highland 71--Mike Hamelin had 22 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists as the Falcons (16-5, 6-0) beat the Bulldogs (13-6, 3-3) for their 25th consecutive Golden League victory over the past three seasons.

Santa Clara 59, Nordhoff 38--Mike McGill scored 18 points for the the Saints (13-6, 5-0) in a Frontier League game. Craig Ramonette scored 17 for Nordhoff.

Calabasas 71, Moorpark 66--The Coyotes (15-7, 3-3) took the Frontier League game into overtime on a three-pointer by Billy Hoover. Ryan Coleman had 31 points for Calabasas.

Royal 68, Thousand Oaks 61--Eric Carlsen scored seven of his 15 points in the first quarter as the Highlanders took 21-11 lead in a Marmonte League game.

Scott Hambly scored 16 points for Royal (14-5, 8-2).

Mike Lauer had 17 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists for Thousand Oaks (11-11, 5-5).

Camarillo 77, Newbury Park 58--Nathan Kaup had 16 points, and Nathan Hill added 15 points and seven rebounds for Camarillo (6-11, 3-7) in the Marmonte League game.

Muir 80, Hoover 58--Danny Clark scored 34 points for visiting Hoover (2-17, 0-7) in a Pacific League loss.

Arcadia 58, Glendale 55--Chris Farmer had four three-pointers and 14 points for Glendale (11-10, 2-5) but his potential game-tying shot missed at the buzzer in a Pacific League overtime loss.

Gerard Gamboa’s basket tied the game for Arcadia (15-8, 4-3) with 11 seconds left in regulation.

Bell-Jeff 51, Salesian 45--Ruben Douglas had 13 points for the Guards (11-9, 5-3) in a Santa Fe League game.

Oak Park 87, Fillmore 45--Shawn Williams and Darren Aherne each scored 17 points for the Eagles (9-10, 4-0) in a Tri-Valley game.
