Metrolink Parking Fees
In his Jan. 9 Modest Proposal (“ ‘Free’ Station Parking: Really a Taxpayer Expense”), Paul Casey of Santa Monica cynically views mass transit such as Metrolink not as a cheap, quick way to get working-class people around town but as a means for government to gouge another $3 million a year from the already over-taxed working class in the form of “modest parking fees.” To Casey, this Orwellian bureaucratic social engineering is called an incentive. However, to those who understand newspeak, this is disincentive to use Metrolink and to set up shop or remain in Los Angeles.
