CORONA DEL MAR — Lance Stewart has resigned as Corona del Mar girls’ volleyball coach, Athletic Director Jerry Jelnick said Thursday.
Stewart, a Laguna Beach High graduate, was 74-10 as the Sea Kings’ coach the last three seasons. He led them to back-to-back Southern Section and State Division I titles in 1992 and ’93.
Stewart will continue to coach men’s volleyball at Irvine Valley College.
“There were plans to start a women’s program at Irvine Valley and it would be a natural for me to coach both,” Stewart said, “But I don’t know if that’s going to happen.”
There is some speculation that Stewart would be a leading candidate for the recently vacated girls’ volleyball coaching position at Laguna Beach.
“I still have strong ties there and I definitely would be interested,” Stewart said. “I could walk to work. But it would have to be the right situation.”
