BURBANK : 2 Firefighters Burned Battling House Blaze
Two Burbank firefighters suffered second-degree burns Thursday battling a “suspicious†fire that destroyed the rear section of a house in the 900 block of North Buena Vista Street.
The fire, which was reported shortly after 11 a.m., caused an estimated $40,000 in damage to the house, plus an unknown amount of damage to belongings inside. No one was home when the fire broke out, and the cause of the blaze is under investigation, a Burbank Fire Department spokesman said.
“It definitely is a suspicious fire,†said Fire Marshal Darryl Forbes. He added that initial reports indicated that the fire may have been caused by an explosion.
A trained dog from the state fire marshal’s office was being brought to the fire scene to help find the origin of the blaze, he said.
One of the firefighters suffered several large blisters on his cheek and forehead and another was burned on his right foot. Neither had to be hospitalized for the injuries, Forbes said.
