PREP NOTES : Esperanza’s Greer Out for the Season

Esperanza forward Josh Greer will miss the rest of the season because of a broken bone in his foot, Aztec Coach Mark Hill said Wednesday.
Greer, a 6-foot-6 junior forward, was injured in the third quarter of a 43-40 victory over Huntington Beach on Friday. He will have surgery next week to have a pin placed in his foot.

Former Sonora pitcher Jim Peterson died of throat cancer last Thursday in New York, former Sonora coach Bill Wilson said.
Peterson, 39, was twice selected the Southern Section 2-A player of the year (1972-73).

Fullerton’s Kevin Kim was one of 14 juniors named Wednesday to the United States Tennis Assn. national team.
