Colorful AST Offering: AST Research Inc. introduced a new notebook computer this week featuring a color screen and a powerful microprocessing chip that the Irvine-based company says is priced competitively.
The Ascentia 810N computer, which AST began shipping last month and is now available through dealers, will sell for between $2,500 to $2,800, depending on the size of the hard disk drive. It features a 10.4-inch color screen and a microprocessor chip from Cyrix Corp.
The model is manufactured in Taiwan to AST’s specifications, said Steve Andler, AST’s director of mobile computing. Some of the final assembly is done at the company’s plant in Fort Worth, Tex.
