Officials hired a former city official from Colorado to fill the city manager post left vacant in September.
Geoff Dolan, a former city manager in Longmont, started work on Monday at an annual salary of $100,272. He was selected from among 100 applicants for the post.
Dolan served as Longmont’s top administrator from 1987 to 1993 before he left the job voluntarily for a yearlong trip to Europe with his family.
“I fulfilled a lifelong dream,” said Dolan, who traveled in a camper van with his wife, son and daughter.
Dolan fills the position left vacant when former City Manager Bill Smith became the top administrator in Westminster.
Dolan said he is looking forward to working in a new climate and new city. Longmont, about 12 miles from Boulder, has a population of about 55,000. Manhattan Beach has about 32,000 residents. “The idea of living there, with the ocean, that’s really exciting,” he said.
