BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Cooper Controls Outcome
Cooper scored 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Simi Valley to an 81-35 victory over Camarillo in a Marmonte League girls’ basketball game on Thursday night.
Cooper had 22 points in the first half. Simi Valley (13-3), which improved to 3-1 in league play, did most of its damage in the second and third quarters when the Pioneers outscored Camarillo (2-12, 1-3), 43-10.
Notre Dame 70, Louisville 37--Notre Dame went on a 27-0 run that lasted from the start of the second half to five minutes 33 seconds in the fourth quarter in a Mission League opener at Notre Dame.
Ashly Ritter had a career-high 20 points to lead Notre Dame (10-4, 1-0), and Maggie Dixon added her second triple-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.
Buena 47, Rio Mesa 23--Eboni Conley scored 11 points and Cori Sebek added 10 for the visiting Bulldogs (6-2, 2-0) in a Channel League game.
Moorpark 49, Oak Park 46--Oak Park blew four chances to win in the final minute, first missing on the front end of a one and one then missing three attempts from behind the three-point line in a nonleague loss at home.
Tracey Milburn had 18 points and Tara O’Donnell added 17 for Moorpark (6-2). Alisha Valavanis had 12 points and five assists to lead Oak Park (9-5).
L.A. Baptist 48, La Reina 46--After trailing by 12 points, 27-15, midway through the third period, visiting L.A. Baptist (4-7) went on an 8-0 run in the final two minutes to pull out the nonleague victory.
Eliza Voita had 16 points and 17 rebounds to lead L.A. Baptist, while Kindrea Cuccia paced La Reina (3-7) with 15 points.
Alemany 76, Harvard-Westlake 26--Center Carly Funicello had 18 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots as the Indians improved to 10-2, 1-0 in Mission League play.
Newbury Park 66, Westlake 26--Guard Renee Intlekofer and forward Kara McKeown each scored seven points in the first quarter for the visiting Panthers (14-1, 4-0) in a Marmonte League game. Intlekofer finished with 15 points, McKeown 11. Megan Carmola scored nine points for Westlake (6-10, 3-1).
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Moorpark 84, Bakersfield 77--Paul Foster had 28 points and 20 rebounds and brother Nick Foster added 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Raiders (12-6) to a Western State Conference overtime victory.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Ventura 97, Pierce 41--Marina Reyes had 18 points, six assists and seven steals to lead Ventura (13-1, 2-0) in a Western State Conference interdivision blowout at home.
Julie Hardy added 17 points for the Pirates, and Tori Anderson contributed nine points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Valley 62, Oxnard 57--The Monarchs broke a 55-55 tie when Maggie Hause made a three-point shot with one minute to play, leading Valley (12-6, 2-0) in a WSC interdivision game.
