Course to Offer Advice on Driving

The “55 Alive/Mature Driving” course for senior citizens will be offered Tuesday and Wednesday by the Cypress Recreation and Park District.

The program was developed by the American Assn. of Retired Persons to help make seniors safer drivers and enable them to maintain their driver’s licenses longer.

Many older drivers experience difficulty when yielding the right of way, backing their vehicles, changing lanes, and entering and leaving freeways, according to a program spokeswoman. But research indicates that seniors can improve their driving abilities through additional training, the spokeswoman said.

Those who complete the course are often eligible to receive reduced premiums on auto insurance.

The class will be conducted at the Cypress Senior Center, 9031 Grindlay St. The fee is $8. Registration is available by calling (714) 229-6776.

Seminars Give Tips on Better Health

Free seminars for seniors are being offered on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at Huntington Terrace. The seminars are sponsored by Pacifica Hospital and Pacifica Plus.

Registered nurse Karen Nowicki will discuss “Diet and Disease” from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Thursday. Registered dietitian Laura Klein will speak on “Practical Applications for Implementing Diet Recommendations” from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Jan. 26. Refreshments will be served at both seminars.

Huntington Terrace is at 18800 Florida St., Huntington Beach.

Free Podiatric Service to Be Offered

Free podiatric screenings for seniors will be offered from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Chapman General Hospital. The hospital and the ProfessionalCare Medical Group are sponsoring the service.

Presentation to Address Arthritis

“Active Living ith Arthritis” is the title of a presentation that will be given from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.Wednesday at the Cypress Senior Center. Carolyn Dodge of the Arthritis Foundation of Orange County will speak at this free monthly forum.

A noon luncheon will precede the talk. Cost of the luncheon is $3.75 for people less than 60, and $1.50 for those 60 and older.
