Lot Offers Free Trees to People in Need

* Two recent stories regarding Christmas tree sales in the Valley highlighted Cicero Farms, but there are other Christmas tree entrepreneurs in the Valley, including some which are nonprofit organizations with philanthropic motives.

One of the oldest is the Reseda Y’s Men’s Club, which has sold Yule trees since 1950 at the same location. With a name often confused with the biblical Wise Men, the club and its co-ed members are dedicated to the support of the West Valley Family YMCA (also nonprofit) and operate quietly, without fanfare, like the fabled shoemaker elves.

The club’s property and tree lot are next to the YMCA in Reseda, just east of Wilbur Avenue and the West Valley Police Station. Tree lot labor is over 90% volunteer.

Again, just as a year ago, the tree lot will be left open at 4 p.m., Saturday, Christmas Eve, to those less-fortunate members of the community who could not afford to buy a tree for their family, to pick up a free tree from any unsold tree stock at the site.
