COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Anteaters Win Again

The UC Irvine women’s basketball team scored an 84-80 victory over winless North Texas Wednesday night.
Junior Allah-mi Basheer had 20 points, including 18 in the second half, and seven rebounds and Michelle Kahler added 15 points and seven rebounds to lead visiting UC Irvine (3-3).
The victory marked the first time the Anteaters, who beat Texas Christian Sunday, have won consecutive road games since 1988. It also marked the first time the Anteaters recorded back-to-back victories since 1991.
The 3-3 start is the best for the Anteaters since 1991, when they also started the season 3-3.
Jinelle Williams had 11 points and Tamera Thomas had 11 points, including three three-pointers, for the Anteaters, who shot 45.7% from the floor.
Jaquinta Deaton had a game-high 24 points and team-high six rebounds for North Texas (0-7).
In another nonconference game:
Colorado State 79, Long Beach State 72--Melissa Gower had a game-high 32 points and 16 rebounds and Kim Barfield added 10 points and five assists for visiting Long Beach State (2-3).
Brenda Brunner had 29 points and 10 rebounds, Teresa James added 17 points and Brynn Markle had 14 points for Colorado State (4-2).
Gower hit 11 of 17 from the floor and 10 of 13 from the free-throw line for the 49ers, who trailed, 39-30, at halftime.
