Bell Labs Gets New President: The long-distance company announced the appointment of Daniel C. Stanzione as president of AT&T; Bell Laboratories, the eighth chief of the vaunted research arm of the company. Stanzione succeeds John S. Mayo, who will retire in February after a 40-year career at Bell Labs, the last four as president. Stanzione, 49, had been president of AT&T; Network Systems’ Global Public Networks unit. He began his career at Bell Labs in 1972 as a software developer.
