GIRLS’ BASKETBALL LA QUINTA CLASSIC : Ocean View Takes Early Lead, Cruises Past La Quinta

Ocean View jumped to a 23-6 lead after the first quarter and cruised the rest of the way, beating host La Quinta, 62-42, Thursday in pool play of the Lady Aztec Classic girls’ basketball tournament.
Sophomore Jennifer Tuiolosega scored a game-high 22 points and junior Becky Fraser added 21 points, hitting seven of seven from the free-throw line for the Seahawks (5-4). Junior Andrea Tuiolosega had 10 points for Ocean View.
Tina Shum had 17 points, including four three-pointers, and Jaclyn Fredrickson added 11 for La Quinta (0-6).
The Seahawks will face Esperanza in the championship, at 7:30 tonight. The Aztecs beat Ocean View last week by four points.
In other pool play games:
Esperanza 83, Norwalk John Glenn 29--By the end of the half, Esperanza led by 31 points. Esperanza’s Leah Combs had a game-high 20 points.
Center Theresa Gethins added 14 and forward Lindsay Brown had 12 points for the Aztecs, who improve to 8-1.
Troy 40, Santiago 31--Janea Butler had 13 points and five rebounds and Dinah Shah had five points, four assists and three steals for Troy (6-3).
Alejandra Torres scored 13 points and Angie Chin-Sam added eight points and 13 rebounds for Santiago.
