Work Training Hearing: Employers, educators, parents and government representatives are invited to a public hearing on a new federally funded work training program called the “School-to-Career Plan” whose goal is to better prepare high school and college students for the job market. The hearing, to be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday at San Diego Career Center, 8401 Aero Drive, San Diego, will cover points of a state plan mandated by federal law to better prepare youths for careers by developing more work-oriented curriculum and by setting up work apprenticeship programs, among other features. One of 25 hearings to be held around the state over the next several weeks, the Friday meeting will give employers a chance to describe the kinds of skills they need and how future employees can acquire those skills. “The kinds of jobs our young people can anticipate, and the training and education they will need to successfully move from school to career, are of vital importance to every member of the community,” said Thomas V. McKernan, chairman of the Governor’s School to Career Task Force.
