A benefit performance of “Awake and Sing!” for Crenshaw High’s student-run business, Food From the ‘Hood, will take place today at 4 p.m. at the Bergamot Station Arts Center, 2525 Michigan Ave. in Santa Monica.
The critically acclaimed revival of Clifford Odets’play, starring Orson Bean, follows the trials of a Jewish family living on the brink of poverty during the Depression. The benefit performance is in conjunction with the Bergamot Station Art Center’s Winterfest Party, which features art, music and theatrical performances.
All proceeds will benefit Food From the ‘Hood and the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Food From the ‘Hood makes its own salad dressing to raise money for college scholarships. The group regularly donates 25% of its harvest to the needy.
Tickets are $15 and include a reception. Information: (213) 466-1767.
