MISSION HILLS — An 81-year-old woman died early Sunday after she was run down by a car that sped off after hitting her, police said.
The woman, whose name was not released, was crossing Devonshire Street just west of Sepulveda Boulevard at 5:30 a.m. when a blue car struck her, said Los Angeles Police Officer Bill Mulvihill. Police have not determined whether the woman was inside the crosswalk, he said.
Mulvihill said the woman spoke to officers who responded to the scene but was only able to give a general description of the car. She complained of leg, back and head pain and died several hours later at a nearby hospital, he said.
Police have interviewed one witness to the incident and are continuing their investigation, Mulvihill said.
