Farewell to Kuchel

As a lifelong Democrat, I was saddened to hear of the death of former U.S. Sen. Thomas H. Kuchel, as he was the last Republican legislator I ever voted for. Unlike today’s crop, Tom Kuchel was a human being first, a gentleman next and a politician last. In casting my ballot it didn’t matter what party Tom belonged to, I knew he would govern for all the people. He must have been thoroughly sickened by what has been taking place on both sides of the legislative aisle over the past decade or so.
To Tom Kuchel’s family, take heart. He may have been the last good politician we will see for quite a while.
