OUTLOOK
Billingsley isn’t bashful about saying how last season’s team was one of his favorites. “Everyone knew their roles,” he said. “They’d dive on the floor, always hustle and play tough.” But the gritty leaders from the defending Sunset League champions--forward Brandon Leimbach and point guard Danny Hoppie--have graduated. “This year, we’re trying to fit some square pegs in round holes,” Billingsley said. The Barons aren’t as hard-nosed as last year’s group, but there are some big positives, including the return of all-league forward Domingo. “He’s our prime-time player and we’re depending on him,” Billingsley said. Domingo averaged 16 points and eight rebounds in the regular season. Tayyar, a transfer from Newport Harbor who averaged 13 points and four assists in the regular season, will take over at the point. “He’s a fine point guard who can give us some scoring punch,” Billingsley said. “Talent-wise, Paul is probably a better basketball player than Hoppie was.” Providing more balance for the Barons are Arvesen and Keller. Billingsley hopes they will provide some three-point shooting to help open up the middle for Domingo.
