SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : CHP Concludes Special Enforcement Efforts

The California Highway Patrol wrapped up a high-profile enforcement program Wednesday designed mainly to snare motorists driving too fast between San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente.
CHP spokesman Bruce Lian said that about 350 citations were expected to be written over a two-day period. The exact number of tickets issued has not been tallied, officials said.
During the special enforcement on Nov. 16 and then on Wednesday, 20 officers looked for speeders, expired registration tags and motorists not wearing seat belts, Lian said.
Construction work on the South County portion of Interstate 5 has made it more important than ever that motorists drive safely, Lian said. The holiday season only compounds that need, he added.
“We’re not out there to make revenue,” Lian said. “We’re out there to slow people down. That’s our biggest problem out there.”
