Ethics Panel Defers Decision on Gingrich
WASHINGTON — The House Ethics Committee decided Tuesday to defer until the next Congress the question of how to proceed on a complaint filed by a political rival against Rep. Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), who is expected to become Speaker in January.
The panel’s decision was announced after a three-hour, closed-door meeting by Reps. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.), the panel chairman, and Fred Grandy of Iowa, the ranking GOP member.
“There was some discussion as to whether or not we had sufficient information to decide the case,†McDermott said.
