OXNARD : Gunman Sought in La Colonia Shooting
Oxnard police are still seeking a gunman who shot a 24-year-old Oxnard man in the stomach as he stood on his front porch in La Colonia neighborhood, authorities said Tuesday.
Corey Lyghts, 24, told police he was wounded about 8:30 p.m. Sunday when someone fired a series of gunshots toward his house in the 500 block of North McKinley Avenue. Lyghts said he saw a teen-age boy run from the area.
Police have no suspects. Sgt. Cliff Troy, who supervises the major crimes unit, said investigators do not believe the incident was related to gang rivalry.
Cmdr. Joe Munoz, the night watch commander, said Lyghts appeared to be the target, rather than the victim of a random shooting.
Lyghts was driven to St. John’s Regional Medical Center by family members who also called police. He was released Monday.
