Islas Named Player of the Year

Francisco Islas of Rancho Santiago was selected as the Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer player of the year by a vote of the conference’s coaches.
Islas was one of five players on the first team for the Dons, who won the conference championship. J.P. Frutos of Rancho Santiago was the coach of the year.
Rancho Santiago also placed Maximiliano Monroy, Raul Monroy, Andrew Oftelie and Scott Zonser on the first team.
Other first-team members are Pat Ferry, Jim Hicks and Athanasios Koubouras of Orange Coast, Chris Roselli and Marko Soskic of Irvine Valley, D.J. Buckley of Fullerton, Duje Babarovic of Cypress, Alex Gimenez of Golden West, and Eric Henderson of Riverside.
The second team: Oscar Cisneros, Oscar Luna and Justin Zayas of Rancho Santiago, Luciano DeLeon, Mike McCabe and Kazuyuki Nakata of Orange Coast, Emilio Vargas and John Gerdis of Irvine Valley, Joe Meza and Daniel Buda of Cypress, Philip McCluskey of Fullerton, Andrew Preall of Golden West and Barry Smith of Riverside.
