OUTLOOK
Danley, a 28-year coaching veteran at Katella, is excited about this season’s team. “This could be one of our better years,” Danley said. “We could be a top five team in the county.” There are lots of reasons for Danley’s optimism, starting with the Knights’ front line. Returning all-league players Clayton and Pahl will be tough for opponents to deal with. Clayton, a 6-5 forward, is a versatile player who is explosive around the basket. Pahl averaged 12.5 points last season and is a force in the low post. It gets better. Danley said his point guard, Romero, will turn heads this season. “He’s only a junior, but he’s one of the best in the county,” Danley said. “He’s quick, and handles the ball well. He reminds me of Rick Aberegg.” Aberegg was one of Danley’s best, averaging 27.5 points in his senior season at Katella in 1970. Armbruster, Barnwell and Burfeind are Danley’s three other top-notch players this season. “This is the first time in a few years where we have a legitimate six players who could be called starters,” Danley said. “For us, it’s not going to be who we play but how we play.”
