NEWBURY PARK — Senior defensive back Bill Sperry had two interceptions to lead Thousand Oaks to a 10-6 Marmonte League victory over Newbury Park on Thursday night.
The tone of the game was set on Newbury Park’s first two possessions. On the opening drive, the Panthers (6-4, 4-3) moved to the Thousand Oaks 28, but on fourth down, Sperry intercepted a pass in the end zone.
After forcing a punt, the Panthers drove to the Lancers’ seven, but Brock Diediker was stopped on fourth down at the six.
Thousand Oaks (4-6, 3-4) scored late in the second quarter on a four-yard run by Brandon Jackson, who gained 101 yards in 11 carries. Jackson’s 47-yard run in the third quarter set up a 22-yard field goal by Andy Carpiac.
Newbury Park scored on a seven-yard pass from Chris Czernek to Dajuan Hawkins with 10 minutes to play. Czernek completed 27 of 43 passes for 216 yards, but Sperry made his second interception late in the fourth quarter to stifle a Newbury Park rally.
Patrick Reddick led Newbury Park with nine receptions for 104 yards.
