Kemper Corp. Attracts New Suitors: Dean Witter, Discover & Co. and SunAmerica Corp. have expressed interest in a deal now that Conseco Inc. has proposed a change in the terms of its merger agreement with Kemper, a Long Grove, Ill.-based mutual fund and life insurance company. General Electric Capital Corp., a unit of General Electric Co. whose $60-a-share offer was recently spurned by Kemper, has also expressed interest, the Wall Street Journal reported. In June, Kemper signed a merger agreement that called for Conseco to acquire Kemper for $3.25 billion, or $67 a share. Conseco, believing shareholders would reject the deal, revised its offer to $60 per Kemper share, which would reduce the value of the total offer by about $290 million.
