Beauregard Meets Team After Court Appearance

SAN BERNARDINO â€”  Cal State Northridge football player Jonathan Beauregard appeared at a court hearing late Friday morning in his attempted-murder case, then left for Utah to meet his teammates.

The Matadors left campus by bus Friday morning, traveling to Cedar City for today’s game against Southern Utah after stopping in Barstow for a team workout in the afternoon.

“I’ll meet them at the (Nevada) state line,� Beauregard, 22, said. “I’m driving there.�

True to his word, Beauregard met the bus in Nevada and arrived in Cedar City on Friday night with the rest of the team.

Wearing jeans and a striped shirt, Beauregard arrived in San Bernardino Municipal Court about five minutes before his 10:30 a.m. hearing. He sat at the back of the courtroom and waited almost an hour before his case was heard by Judge Donald E. Van Luven.

Beauregard is charged with two counts of attempted murder and is out of jail on $100,000 bail. The purpose of Friday’s hearing was to set dates for a pre-preliminary hearing and a preliminary hearing.

The pre-preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 14. If the case is not settled at that time, a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Dec. 16.

Beauregard, a senior and two-year starter at offensive guard, was not suspended from the team but missed three weeks of practice and two games after breaking a finger in practice on Oct. 4. He spent six days in jail before making bail on Oct. 26.

“I’m looking forward to playing,� he said Friday.

Beauregard is accused of shooting a former girlfriend and her male acquaintance outside a San Bernardino bar on Aug. 29.
