Kilpatrick 15, L.A. Baptist 14--Senior tailback Mario Qualls rushed for a season-high 223 yards and two touchdowns in 31 carries to propel Kilpatrick (7-2, 3-1) at Alemany High.
Qualls rushed six times for 90 yards--including a 53-yard scoring run--on a decisive fourth-quarter drive. Qualls’ touchdown and a two-point conversion pass to Shawn Reed from Qualls put the Mustangs (7-2, 3-1) ahead, 15-14, with nine minutes to play.
Qualls also scored Kilpatrick’s first touchdown late in the second quarter to cut L.A. Baptist’s lead to 14-7.
L.A. Baptist (3-6, 3-1), which had won three in a row after opening with five losses, scored two touchdowns in the first quarter. Chris Ross rushed for 85 yards and and a 25-yard touchdown in 15 carries.
Kilpatrick’s Cleo Cloman recovered a fumble and recorded a sack.
