Accidental Shooting Victim Dies

GARDEN GROVE — A 24 year-old man who accidentally shot himself in the head while handling a gun died Monday of his wound, according to the Orange County coroner’s office.
Robert Ortiz Mejia of Garden Grove had been on life-support systems since Sunday night, when police found him at his home in the 13000 block of Blackbird Street, according to Garden Grove police.
Mejia was in his living room just before 11 p.m., handling a small-caliber, semi-automatic handgun, when witnesses told police they heard a shot and saw him fall over, according to Lt. John Woods.
An autopsy is scheduled for today.
