Weby’s Dely & Bakery, a San Fernando...
Weby’s Dely & Bakery, a San Fernando Valley fixture for nearly 30 years, is really two separate businesses under one roof. The deli, owned and operated by Frank and Lisa Ready, has been open continuously for three decades. The bakery, which had been under the same ownership for more than 20 years, closed temporarily from July 4 to Aug. 12 while the new owners completed a renovation.
Norm Neiman, a third-generation baker who also runs the Plaza Bakery in North Hollywood, wants to assure Weby’s longtime patrons that there will be no drop-off in quality.
“We’re better than before,†said Neiman, who owns the bakery with his wife, Irene. “You look at the bread, this is like a picture.â€
Lisa Ready describes her operation as an East Coast-style delicatessen dealing primarily with takeout and catering orders, with only a few tables on site. She and her husband have owned the business for about two years, although Frank had worked at Weby’s Dely for more than 15 years before that.
“We met here when I was a customer,†Lisa said.

ARRIVEDERCI LAUTREC
Lautrec, famous for its outdoor patio with a fountain, wildflowers and pepper trees, has changed its name and menu. Switching from a cuisine it described as nouveau California/French, the West Valley eatery now called Villa Piacere offers a new cuisine its owners describe as northern Italian.
“We have a larger variety of pastas and different types of gourmet pizzas,†said Helen Hewes of Villa Piacere. The new menu’s offerings are more nutritionally balanced, with lower fat and sodium levels, and more moderately priced, Hewes said.
Some new entrees are a spicy shrimp pizza with basil and sun-dried tomatoes, a vegetarian pizza with grilled onions, caramelized garlic and goat cheese, and black linguine with chicken and shrimp. Most entrees range from $9.95 to $14.95, Hewes said.
Villa Piacere, 22160 Ventura Blvd., Woodland Hills, (818) 704-1185, also offers brunch on weekends. Happy hour from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
