PREP FOOTBALL : Haynes Helps Villa Park Shut Out Loara
ORANGE — Sophomore Franklin Haynes intercepted three passes and scored two touchdowns to help lead No. 9 Villa Park to a 35-0 victory over Loara Thursday night at El Modena High School.
Quarterback Sean McMahon led the Spartans on offense, completing six of nine passes for 173 yards and three touchdowns.
Villa Park held Loara (0-4) to 132 yards in total offense, including 39 on the ground.
Two quick touchdown passes in the first quarter opened the scoring for the Spartans (3-0-1).
McMahon hit Kris Fisher on an 18-yard scoring pass and, on his next attempt, McMahon found Sam Stremick for a 67-yard score to help Villa Park to a 14-0 halftime lead.
The Spartans controlled the momentum throughout the second half, starting with the kickoff.
Haynes returned the kick 83 yards for his first score. On the Spartans’ next possession, McMahon connected on his third touchdown, a 23-yard pass to Fisher, giving Villa Park a 28-0 lead midway through the third quarter.
Haynes capped the scoring when he intercepted his third pass of the night and returned it 45 yards.
Tony D’Amato had 59 yards in six carries for the Spartans.
Loara quarterback Jim Kirkland completed eight of 22 for 65 yards and three interceptions.
