Four-Star Films : ‘Easy Rider’
The recent 25th-anniversary revival of Dennis Hopper’s ‘60s landmark film reveals that hippie communes may be a thing of the past but the film’s portrait of a tragically divided America rings so true as to have been prophetic. Hopper and Peter Fonda, joined by Jack Nicholson (from left) in his career-making boozy but shrewd Southern lawyer, are amiable bikers on a journey to New Orleans for Mardi Gras that turns into an odyssey into the dark side of America. With Karen Black (Cinemax Thursday at 4 a.m.).
