IRVINE — Six people were injured when two cars collided at an Irvine intersection Friday night, sending one vehicle careening into a light pole and rolling onto its roof, police said.
Senior Officer Gregg Gibbs said a Honda driven by Collin Eckert, 20, of Irvine was traveling north on Yale Avenue with three passengers about 10:40 p.m. when it struck a Mazda going west on Bryan Avenue and driven by Mina Maghami, 40, also of Irvine.
Eckert was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and released from custody for treatment at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, Gibbs said.
The accident is still under investigation, and it is not clear whether alcohol was a factor in the accident, Gibbs said.
The injured were taken to two area hospitals.
