OH NO--NOT U2!: Is U2 the most politically correct band in the world? Not in the minds of French environmentalists, who are slamming group members Bono and the Edge for uprooting several centuries-old trees to make way for a road leading to a mansion the two co-own near Nice in the south of France.

Asked for comment, a spokesman for U2 merely acknowledged that the pair has some land near Nice. Bono is known to have spent the summer based there with his wife, Ali, and their two children, but has recently returned to another lavish home in Dublin, where he was also being criticized by the Irish press for a display of opulence after reportedly spending nearly $3 million to build a swimming pool.
