BUENA PARK — Marina quarterback Matt Roberson passed for 133 yards and a touchdown, and running back Micah Harrison rushed for 49 yards to lead the Vikings to a 23-12 victory over Sunny Hills Friday night in a nonleague game at Buena Park High.
The Vikings (3-0) scored on their first possession of the game as kicker Peter Mignosa drilled a 42-yard field goal.
The Lancers stumbled in the first quarter, however, committing a series of errors.
Sunny Hills quarterback Greg Garand fumbled two snaps and had two passes intercepted in the quarter. The Lancers had six turnovers in the game.
The Vikings capped a six-play, 50-yard drive after Garand’s second fumble as Roberson scrambled five yards for the touchdown.
The Lancers scored with one second left in the first half, as Gerand ran a 10-yard sweep into the end zone.
The Sunny Hills’ offense gained momentum in the third quarter, putting together an 11-play, 75-yard drive. Garand scored again, on a one-yard dive into the end zone, to bring the Lancers to within four points.
On a fourth-and-three play from midfield, the Vikings gained a first down on a fake punt. On the next play, Roberson hit wide receiver Joe Borzoni with a 35-yard touchdown pass to cap a four-play, 46-yard drive.
