OUTLOOK

San Clemente is coming off its best season in more than a decade, finishing third and reaching the Southern Section Division I quarterfinals. But the Tritons will find it difficult to match that success. They won’t, however, slip back into the abyss. Samperi is one of the top linemen in the county. He leads a solid offensive line. What quarterback they will protect is a question. Smith saw some time off the bench last season. Carlin is a transfer from Del Mar Torrey Pines. Two others wait in the wings. Whoever it is will have good receivers as targets. Cheyenne Dixon is a great name, but can he run? The defense has Karns and Frith up front, but there are elephant-size holes to fill.
