Odds and ends: The National Cattlemen’s Assn. says Americans will eat 52 million pounds of beef on Labor Day, the second-biggest beef-eating day after Independence Day. That’s equivalent in weight to 2,000 school buses. . . . Los Angeles is the fourth-leading destination for domestic business travel this year, according to management consultants Runzheimer International. The city tied with New York for second place in 1992, the last time the survey was conducted. The leading destination in both years was Chicago, according to 345 travel managers surveyed.
