LOS ANGELES : Mayor and Council Honor Northridge Little Leaguers
The “Earthquake Kids,†who captured the U.S. title at the Little League World Series, were honored Tuesday by Mayor Richard Riordan and the Los Angeles City Council.
Riordan and Councilman Hal Bernson, whose district includes Northridge, passed out honorary resolutions to each of the team’s coaches and players. About 100 people in the council chamber applauded as Coach Larry Baca introduced the youngsters.
Riordan, Bernson and other council members lauded the team as a symbol of the city’s recovery from the Jan. 17 quake.
About 70% of the team members had to leave their homes after the quake, and three were still living elsewhere as the team headed to Williamsport, Pa., for the playoffs.
