Macy-Federated Merger: Californians will get their first glimpse this week of a consolidation plan for Federated Department Stores and R.H. Macy & Co., the New York-based retailer that operates the Bullock’s and I. Magnin chains in Southern California. Cincinnati-based Federated is expected to file the plan--known as a disclosure statement--in a New York Bankruptcy Court on Thursday. The statement will include references to plans for combining operations. However, full details on possible store closings, store conversions and layoffs are expected to be included in amendments filed in September. Federated, which will eliminate duplicative administrative operations when the companies merge, is expected to eliminate some jobs at San Francisco-based Macy’s West, the regional headquarters for Macy. Some analysts also expect Federated to close some I. Magnin stores in Southern California. Federated plans to combine the operations of the two companies by December.
