3.9 Quake Shakes Hollister, but No Injuries or Damage Are Reported
HOLLISTER, Calif. — An earthquake measuring magnitude 3.9 shook Hollister on Saturday night, but there were no reports of damage or injuries.
The quake hit at 6:22 p.m., said Pat Jorgenson, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park.
The quake was centered on a “creeping†section of the San Andreas Fault, Jorgenson said.
“(This part of the fault) has never been known to have earthquakes larger than 5 points in magnitude because it’s been releasing stress at nice, regular intervals,†she said.
The epicenter was located about 12 miles east of Hollister. Police there reported no damage or injuries.
Hollister is about 85 miles southeast of San Francisco.
