NEWPORT BEACH : City Approves Arts and Culture Grants
The City Council has approved arts and culture grants for six regional groups for the 1994-1995 fiscal year.
The city’s Arts Commission reviewed presentations by a variety of arts groups and chose the recipients based on who could offer the greatest benefit to residents, particularly children and senior citizens.
The grants, approved Monday, are:
* $4,000 to Opera Pacific to provide a series of educational programs for students, including a performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.â€
* $4,000 to the South Coast Repertory company for programs for elementary pupils.
* $3,500 to Ballet Pacifica for a high school-level program.
* $3,000 to the Pacific Symphony, for a 40 training clinics for Corona del Mar High School students and three ensemble performances at the Oasis Senior Center.
* $2,000 to the Master Chorale for four quartet performances at schools.
* $2,000 to the Pacific Chorale for seven outreach programs for children’s choruses directed at students in second through 12th grades.
