SAN CLEMENTE : Golf Tournament Tee Times Available

Tee times are still available for a golf tournament that will benefit South County’s only walk-in center for abused women.

The first annual Laura’s House Golf Tournament will take place on Monday at the Pacific Golf Club, 200 Avenida la Pata, in San Clemente.

Money raised will go toward purchasing a shelter for women who are victims of domestic violence. The shelter will house abused women and offer educational programs on domestic violence.

Laura’s House officials are asking for a donation of $150, which will cover entry fees for the tournament and an awards luau dinner afterward.

Organizers have collected more than $40,000 for the shelter fund.

In June, the doors opened for South County’s first walk-in center for domestic violence victims at 97 Calle Industrias in the Ralph’s shopping center off Avenida Pico .

Over the past three months, the center has helped several women. Volunteers drove one mother with children to court to obtain a restraining order while room in a temporary shelter was found for another woman.

Several support groups operate out of the center. Included are support groups for teens, women and the mothers of abused women.
